Public-sector entities have partnered with the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica (BPIAJ) for the 2019 staging of the Outsource2Jamaica (O2J) Symposium and Expo in April.
“We have the HEART Trust/NTA. They are our partner for human capital training and development… . There is also JAMPRO. They have always been a strategic partner for this event in terms of promotion and engaging buyers, overseas guests, speakers and delegates that will be coming to the conference,” said president of the BPIAJ, Gloria Henry.
Also partnering with the BPIAJ is the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, which will be the host of one of the conference’s sessions.
“The workplace of the future is built on our workforce having the capabilities and aptitude to adapt to the new work environment. So, this session that will be presented by the Ministry of Education will showcase the different steps they have taken to support the growth of this sector,” Henry noted.
The event, which is in its second year, will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on April 11 and 12 under the theme ‘Global Services: Transforming Processes, People and Culture’. The conference will feature a series of live and digital events aimed at bringing together local entrepreneurs, service providers, and youth with international buyers.
“This platform is to bring buyers, influencers and experts from the United States to connect with service providers and domestic operators in the local sector here. It is an opportunity to learn and connect through presentations and workshops. It is also an opportunity to network through our expo. This expo allows service providers and members of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector to showcase their products and services at the Montego Bay Convention Centre,” Henry said.
She argued that the global-services sector is a “people industry” and that the conference will focus on people, processes and culture. However, it will also take into account innovation in information technology and security infrastructure and the integration of artificial intelligence, with a view of enhancing those aspects of the local industry.
The BPIAJ will also be improving its value proposition to include the representation of contact centres, global in-house centres, knowledge process outsourcing entities, the shared-services sector, information technology outsourcing entities, legal process outsourcing entities, human resource outsourcing entities, vendors, and service providers.
